Sometimes kids can say things innocently which really hurt, but other times just an off-hand remark can make your day. Sunday we had the Portland portion of our family up for a combined birthday party for Trinity and "Aunt" Koni. It was a good and pleasant time. Active little 2 1/2 year old Connor was playing on the livingroom couch, fell off and hit himself on the coffee table. His Mom rushed to him and picked him up trying to speak and kiss the hurt away. His Dad took him and hugged him, when out of his sweet mouth came the words, which I heard in the kitchen, "I Want Granddaddy." Oh, yes!! He had his Mom, he had his Dad, but who he really wanted was GRANDDADDY!!! Connor, you didn't know it, but you made my day.

Later in the evening, Connor was jumping all over me playing, and while he banged my head with a balloon, his mother said, "Connor, you have really missed your granddaddy haven't you?"
Without missing a beat and without even looking up he replied, "Yes, and Grammy!" Now there is a kid who could give polititians lessons. Twice in one evening he managed to certify the goodness of being a grandparent, and with three words he swept Phyllis and me together as a couple, with a simple and pure love. Connor, you didn't know it, but you made Grammy's day, also.

That day it was Connor, but of course other days have belonged to one of the other grandchildren. Each has made us feel very special at some time when they didn't realize it. Sometimes it is a hug at church, or a request to play or go for a walk with them, or a phone call from thousands of miles away. It may be something as funny as Alex telling his Dad while shaving the hair off of his head, "why don't you leave some on the back and sides so you will look cool like granddad?"

You're right, it doesn't take much to make a grandparent feel good.

Wow - it's not often that a blog makes me cry! As I read this, my dear little man is sitting beside me on my bed (I'm surfing with the laptop; he's watching "Bob the Mato") with his arm around my shoulders (shoulder actually - he can't reach that far yet). *sigh*

It sounds like we know who the real king of Cash Mountain is. It sounds like my nephew... (to quote my father-in-law) knows which side his bread is buttered on. He's no dummy.
He sounds really cute. Maybe this next summer I can wrestle with him until he bumps his head again. Maybe that would be much fun for him.
It's funny how the same blog can bring different reactions. Kristi was crying while I was laughing.

Hey I heard that your garden on the side of the house is just like sitting in Karen, Kenya.
I had a farm in Africa near the foot hills of the Cash mountains.
Do you have any pictures of what you have done?
See you!

Kristi, some tears are good!

Jeff, we have just taken some pictures and will post them as soon as we figure out how to do it.
[Now we will get advice from everybody we know, and some we don't, on how to post pictures to a blog.]

To post pictures on our blog we set up a flickr account. We paid to get the unlimited pro version so we could store as many pictures as we wanted. There is a free limited space option so you could try it out for free and see if you like it.
It is really easy use.
We upload pictures using an flickr uploader and then once it is in the photo album online you just click on the picture you want to add to your blog.
Then I change the size using the simple tool at the top of the photo.
Then I copy and past the computer text info below the picture into my blog as I write it.
This has worked well for us.
One thing that I would have done differently would be posting small instead of medium size pictures.
Hope that helps

You're right, Glenn--as usual! Grandkids are pretty special. Connor did make my day. He is one sweet guy, even if he likes Granddaddy best!
